Spool & Suspend Email

Email Threat Protection includes a Spool & Suspend service that you manually turn on to temporarily to prevent rejection of incoming mail during expected downtime (for example, scheduled maintenance on your mail servers or network).

While enabled, Spool & Suspend will spool your mail without forwarding it to you. Messages are temporarily stored, so no one sending mail to your server receives notifications.

To turn on Spool and Suspend:

1. Log into the admin console.
2. Select Email Threat Protection.
3. Select Spool & Suspend Email in the side menu.
4. Mark the check boxes for the domains you want to suspend.
5. Select Submit.
6. When you are ready to release the spooled emails, return to the Spool & Suspend Email page, unmark the check boxes, and select Submit again.

If your mail system is still down after you turn Spool and Suspend off, our servers try to deliver your mail for up to 120 hours (5 days). If the mail has been in the queue for 6 hours, the senders receive a bounce message. By default, our severs attempt redelivery every 30 minutes.

ZixArchive subscribers can redeliver messages once your mail server is back online, as well as send and receive messages while your server is offline.
