Deleting Terms and Entries

You can create complex glossary terms and entries by combining and building on existing glossary entries. This level of complexity, however, must also be considered when deleting terms and entries from your glossary.

Deleting terms and entries can have unintended consequences not only for the policy you are modifying but for all other policies, so take great care before deleting.

Impact on Encryption Policies

Assume that you have created Policy A and Policy B in your ZixGateway.

Now assume that you delete the Secure Glossary entry by clicking ; without selecting a policy first.

Without the Secure Glossary entry, Policy A is the same as the Encryption default policy. Since you can not have two Encryption default policies, the system displays the Policy A label in red, signaling that you need to modify or delete Policy A. Policy A is not acted upon in this form.

Without the Secure Glossary entry, Policy B is still a valid policy. However, the result of this policy is that all outgoing email messages from zixcustomer.com are sent encrypted using ZixGateway, probably not your intention. Since the Subject is empty, the policy will match all subject lines, and hence all messages sent from zixcustomer.com will be encrypted.

For Branding, Content and Routing policies, you should also verify that a deletion has the desired effect.

Impact on Glossary Entries

Example: Assume you have two Glossary entries: Confidential and Intellectual Property. Confidential is composed of existing entry Intellectual Property and the lexicon Legal.

If you try to delete the Intellectual Property Glossary entry you are not allowed to do so, because it is used in the Confidential Glossary entry. Instead, you receive an error message.

You can delete the Confidential Glossary entry without problem, however, because Intellectual Property is an existing entry, defined independently of the Confidential entry.

To delete a Glossary Entry or Term:

  1. On the Glossary and Bindings dialog, click  in the row for the entry or term that you want to delete.
  2. A dialog asks you to confirm or cancel the command.

  3. Click Ok.
