Email Archiving and Continuity
Email Archiving provides a safety net against deleted or lost email by automatically archiving all email communication indefinitely. IT managers can leverage policy controls to limit which emails get archived, and for how long, to help them meet regulatory and legal obligations for email retention.
With Email Threat Protection or Email Hosting
Once you are subscribed to Email Archiving, have added the users whose email will be archived, and set up your archiving policies, you're ready to go. When you combine Email Archiving with Email Threat Protection, archiving your inbound email is streamlined. Inbound traffic is already passing through the Email Threat Protection server cluster, which routes a copy to Email Archiving without passing it through your mail server first. You don't need to set up journaling, unless you also want to archive outbound and internal email. However, with Email Threat Protection, you can also archive outbound email using Outbound Filtering instead of journaling.
Email Threat Protection provides added security with the Spool & Suspend Email feature, which spools incoming email for up to five days if your mail server or service is down, and then automatically delivers spooled messages when you're back online.
Without Email Threat Protection
In most cases, we can archive your inbound, outbound, and internal email traffic even if you don't use Email Threat Protection. Configure the journaling feature on your email server or service to capture messages, and forward them to the journal drop address provided by Email Archiving.
