ZixGateway Domains
Required, User-defined
These parameters define the email domains for which the ZixGateway will encrypt/decrypt email messages.
Your organization may have one or hundreds of email domains. You may want all or just some of these email domains to be handled by ZixGateway. In addition, you may want different subsets of your email domains handled by distinct ZixGateway clusters.
ZixGateway Inbound customers are required to set up one unique ZixVPM domain key in ZixGateway Manager to deploy properly. A ZIxVPM domain key is created in ZixSignature Manager and then imported into ZixGateway Manager. The domain key you create in ZixSignature Manager must be in the format zixvpm@zixgatewayinbound.zixcustomer.com.
The purpose of the domain key with ZixGateway Inbound is not used for encryption but as a place holder for proper ZixGateway Inbound deployment.
ZixCorp requires that ZixGateway Inbound customers add a ZixVPM domain in ZixGateway Manager and name it zixgatewayinbound.zixcustomer.com to properly import you domain key.
Use the ZixGateway Domains area to add ZixGateway domains. Initially, the table is empty and displays No Existing Domains. Every one of the email domains and subdomains that ZixGateway handles must be defined in this table.
Note: Unlike cluster names, a
domain name is not arbitrary. The following are required before the configuration
can be deployed to the cluster:
- Fully-qualified domain
name for one of your corporate email domains
- Begin with “zixvpm.”
(added to the beginning of the domain name)
- Assigned a ZixMail private
key file
To define the email domains:
- Consult the list of your
email domains that you prepared prior to configuration.
- Mark each of the email
domains that you want handled by this cluster.
- Enter
the first of these email domains into the Add
field and prepend it with zixvpm.
For example, to add the zixcustomer.com domain, enter “zixvpm.zixcustomer.com.”
- Click
Add.
- Repeat steps 3
and 4 for
each of your email domains in the ZixGateway Domains
table.
Note: At this point,
the Status flag next to each of your email
domains is red and displays needs key file.
This is a reminder to associate an appropriate encryption key file with
each email domain. You must provide these associations before the configuration
is deployed to the cluster.
- Click
for the first email domain in the table.
The ZixGateway Domain Name screen displays.
Define three values in this area: Key File, Password
and Mail Host.
ZixSignature Manager set the Key File name when you
created your gateway key during installation. The Key File name
is a hash of the email domain name in the form em_<email_domain_hash>.zky
and is displayed on the light gray area in the middle of the dialog.
- Do one of the following
to specify the location of the original of this key file.
- Type the location in
the Key File field, OR
- Navigate to this file
using the Browse button.
In the Windows
NT/2000/XP family, the key files are located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Zixit\
- Find the file matching
the Key File, select it, and click OK.
- Enter the passphrase for
this key file into the Password field.
The passphrase is the string of characters that you
specified when you created the gateway key file in ZixSignature
Manager.
- In the Mail
Host field, enter the domain name or IP address of the email server
that is the host for this email domain. ZixGateway (as a mail relay) uses
the address as the destination for incoming email addressed to this email
domain after decryption, if necessary.
If ZixGateway is not connected directly to the email
server, enter the IP address of the first intervening server. For example,
if you have an anti-virus server between the ZixGateway and the email server,
enter the IP address of the anti-virus server.
- Click
Apply.
You have defined the first domain.
The Status flag in the
first row of the ZixGateway Domains area should now be green and display has key file.
- Repeat the steps above to define other domains
until the status flags are all green.
To delete an email domain
- Select the Configure
Sever tab.
- Select the System
tab.
- Click
in
the row in the ZixGateway Domains area for the
domain to be deleted.
ZixGateway Manager asks you to confirm the
deletion.
- Click OK.
The ZixGateway Domains area
updates, showing only the remaining domains.
